By, Cassie Hallack The Myopias Tenuis ant, also known as the Ponerine ant is a large ant species and is part of a subfamily with around 1,600 different species, this subfamily is called Ponerinae. This ant lives in almost every continent. The Ponerine ant is small, hairy, and red. They live in rainforests and damp lands. They thrive from every part of their habitat, from rocks, to small insects. This species helps eat dead plants to stop overpopulation of small bugs. Although they do many positive things, they can still have a negative impact. They can eat plants that are still alive and cause some plants to die. The ponerine ant gathers their food from all around them. This small but strong ant eats almost everything they can get their madables on, ranging from plant waste, to small insects. All though I have done extensive research I was not able to find what foods could be considered toxic to this ant. This species has the average of 30,000 to 32,000 ants in their colony. With the roles of almost every other species of ant, they have workers, gatherers, and other that could be named. The difference between the different the genders is that there are far more many female ants than male. The ponerine ant does not really interact with other species.

Ponerine ant specific name is Myopias Tenuis. The Ponerine ant is a sub-family that is widespread around the world, and includes species from as small as 4 mm to a South American species that is well over 35 mm long, but you can find a lot of them in Australia. Ponerinae ants all have a Ringbum, which are a single-jointed petiole [waist] and all have a restriction between the post-petiole and segment IV of the gaster. The ecosystem of the Ponerine ants are tropical and jungles. One biotic factor is crustaceans, spiders, frogs, small rodents, lavaes, birds. One abiotic is that there are a lot of trees. Different variables of flowers like orchids. One positive thing that Ponerine ants do is that they're carnivorous and hunt other insects for food they help keep balance of the insects that may have a virus. One negative thing that the Ponerine ants are not involved in the progress of myrmecochory which means, they don’t fertilize the plants and feed the lavaes other way. The system they used to hunt their food is by going alone not in groups. They eat any type of insects that is the size like them or little bigger than them or if an animal died. There is no toxic food but there are predators that can eat them if they’re animal size. There is no measure exact of how big the nest is but they live underground. Queen puts more eggs, soldiers protecting the queen, and workers bring food to feed the queen, and the maidens move and feed the lavaes with foods. The difference between female ants and male ants is that the female winged ant is more larger than the male wing it ants and you’ll know that the female ants that don't have wings are much more smaller than the male into female wing-it ants. The interaction of these ponerine ants that by rubbing the back of aphids with their antennae the ants get honey dew droplets that stick to the insects and they can move the the insects to areas of the plant with the best sticky sap.
