The High Noon Ant Lauren Zirinsky My designated ant, is the Princeps Meridiem Formica, also known as The High Noon Ant. The high noon ants are very capable species, and can be found living in virtually any climate, from hot to dry to cool to wet. Their natural preference, however, is for open fields. They most frequently construct their nests under rocks or other objects that come into direct contact with the ground. Compared to other species of ants, Forelius Pruinosus nests tend to be relatively small, housing only a few thousand insects. The high noon ant is 0.07 to 0.1 inch in size. It is brown, red or yellow in color. This ants personality consists of great dancers, love sweet foods and is very flexible when it comes to climates, entrepreneurial, intelligent, and party crashers (These ants will visit other colonies and feast). Ants live in complex social colonies, with there being three kinds of ants in a colony: The queen, the female workers, and males. The queen, being the leader and the workers foraging and protecting their home. The term "ant colony" describes not only the physical structure in which ants live, but also the social rules by which ants organize themselves and the work they do. Did you know, that colonies live inside nests that can be built in trees, underground, or even inside special ant plants?
The high noon ant gets it nutriments, by drinking the sap in leaves for energy, but don’t eat them. Instead, they use them to grow something else, such as other food. Liquid dish detergent is toxic to the high noon ant. Did you know, ants leave a scented trail for each other, so they can easily find their way back to the food.
The average size of an ant colony, is around km2. The average quantity of ants inside a ant colony, is around 300 ants. Ants can make a colony in only 24 - 48 hours! Although that is a couple hundred million ants working together, that is still impressive for these tiny creatures.
